topo gigio

the Ed Sullivan Show was a weekly variety show- All kinds of different acts Singers, Comedians, Dancers, Acrobats, etc from all over the world. There used to be dozens of variety shows on TV every week- sadly, these type of shows faded in the 70's. Americas Got Talent is the closest to an old time variety show on the air today. The Italian Puppet, Topo Gigio, was on the show over 50 times!!!! Ask your grandparents if they remember Topo Gigio "Kiss me Goodnight Eddie"

Elvis Presley - Peace in the Valley [Ed Sullivan Show Live 1956]

Heres a look at Ed Sullivan and Elvis- The Ed Sullivan Show was a hugely popular TV show in the 50's , 60s and into the 70's. Hes famous for introducing America to a wide variety of entertainment from all over the world. Famously Elvis and a few years later, the Beatles.   This appearance is very important in the history of rock and roll, at the end of the song , when Ed walks over and tells the audience that this is a fine, decent young man, he was really telling parents and grown ups that this new music was not something to be afraid of, that Rock and Roll was okay

Elvis Presley Ready Teddy tv Sullivan

Elvis Presley - Teddy Bear - 1957

The character of Conrad Birdie is based on Elvis Presley- the King Of Rock and Roll, who at the height of his fame was drafted into the Army. His fans were heartbroken!!!  (the name Conrad Birdie is actually based on another singer of the time Conway Twitty)
